My name is Nachiketa Acharya and I am a Consultant Ophthalmologist. I am a specialist Cataract surgeon and Clinical Lead for the Retina Services based at the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, and have been since 2008.


I undertook my super specialist fellowships in Medical Retina at Moorfields Eye Hospital London and Aberdeen. I completed my specialist training in Ophthalmology in the West Midlands Deanery in Birmingham. Before this, I had already attained an MD in Ophthalmology from the renowned All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi.


I have been extensively published in peer-reviewed journals, looking into retinal vein occlusion and the socio-economics of age-related macular degeneration. Plus, I am currently a Principal and co-investigator in a number of clinical trials for retinal diseases.

Services

At present, I am the Training Programme Director, in charge of training junior ophthalmologists in the South Yorkshire region. I am also an educational supervisor and provide ophthalmology masterclasses for medical students, as well as being an Honorary senior lecturer at the University of Sheffield. I am a founding partner of MyEyeScan, a specialist ocular imaging service, and am also a trainer on the microsurgical course conducted by the Royal College of Ophthalmology, London.


My professional memberships include the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, the North of England Ophthalmic Society, Yorkshire Retina Society and the All India Ophthalmic Society. Plus, I offer a wide range of professional ophthalmology services for my clients including Cataract surgery and private eye care.
