I am fully qualified to help with a range of ophthalmological conditions in Sheffield including Cataracts, Macular Degeneration and much more. To discuss your condition with me, please fill in my contact form below and I will do what I can to help and advise.

Cataracts, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy

Cataract Surgeries

If you are suffering from Cataracts, it means that your eye lens has developed cloudy patches. This surgery involves replacing this cloudy lens with clear, artificial alternative.

Macular Degeneration

This is a very common condition affecting people in their 50s and 60s, which can affect your eyesight. While this will never cause complete blindness, you may find yourself struggling to read or recognise faces. Depending on your specific condition, I will advise vision aids or regular injections if this would be beneficial.

Diabetic Retinopathy

This condition can be an effect of diabetes, where your high blood sugar can damage your retina. It's important to treat this as soon as possible to avoid blindness. Common symptoms include vision loss, floating shapes, eye pain and redness. If I believe your vision may be at risk due to this condition, I may advise treatments such as laser treatments or in the most severe cases, an operation to remove scar tissue or blood from the eyes.

Retinal vein occlusion, retinal dystrophy and glaucoma

Retinal Vein Occlusion

If you are experiencing a sudden reduction in vision which is normally painless, you could be suffering from this condition. This is more common for people over the age of 60 and is caused by blockages in the vein. Depending on the severity of your condition, I may advise treatments such as retinal photography, optical coherence tomography and more.

Retinal Dystrophy

There are progressive and often chronic disorders that effect a person's vision. There are various causes, but this condition is often genetic. Common symptoms include loss of side vision, night blindness and increased sensitivity to light. I am able to perform the required tests to determine whether you are suffering from this condition. These include vision tests and blood tests.

Glaucoma

This is a very common condition where your optic nerve may have become damaged, something that is seen often in older people. If left untreated you may lose your vision, so it's important to recognise the symptoms. These include intense pain in the eye, vomiting, red eye, headaches and blurriness. I will recommend the appropriate treatment for you, which may include eye drops, laser treatment or surgery for more acute cases.
